A Generation in search of utopia...

In the mid 1950’s, António Ribeiro and his wife Maria do Céu began their agricultural project on becoming the owners of two estates in the sub-district of Mesão Frio: Quinta de S. Tiago, with its 18th century manor house, in the parish of Vila Marim, and Quinta da Portela, in the parish of Barqueiros, close to the first of the stone markers set up by the Marquis of Pombal to delimit the Demarcated Region of the Douro.

In 1980 one of their daughters, Teresinha Ribeiro, who was by then married to Eduardo Miranda, began the conversion work on the properties’ vineyards that, some years later, she luckily acquired through inheritance and purchase.

Since their professions were outside of the agricultural sphere, their strategy was to sell their harvests to export houses and produce small quantities for local consumption or in bulk.

They had four sons: Roberto, Ricardo, Rafael and Rudolfo, whose academic training was progressively in the wine production and management areas.

This was the spur for their parents to fulfil their dream: to see the premium product of their land bottled under its own name.

In order to meet this goal, they purchased the Quinta de Sequeirós in Loureiro, where the winery is; the Quinta d'Além Tanha, in Cima Corgo (with vines over forty years of age) and finally and more recently, the Quinta do Farfão, a valuable property in the Douro Superior.

Family feeling has joined forces with the conditions for producing sublime nectars, representing the best that can be achieved from the different vineyards of the Douro.

The first essay has now arrived on the market, to delight our consumers’ taste buds, under the name of "MÃOS" (HANDS in Portuguese), in reference to the hard work that has been put in in the journey from the vineyards to the bottle, to the concept guiding the founding of our family company and our joined hands as we head into the future and to excellence!
